It has become a very competitive market for wireless headphones for TV . It began as a niche market but has quickly grown through the years. Prices are continuing to fall. Increasingly, the smaller firms are having to make room for the big firms. When Sony enters the market then you know you are in for a battle. Sony plunges into the market with its MDR line.
They boast that it is a open air breakthrough. They do use the latest in DECT advances. Those include a wider reception range. Security is also a mainstay of the new innovations. Wireless networks need to have security to deter outside hackers. The final piece is better quality sound .The Sony system comes with the transmitter unit and headset. The headset charges on the base unit. One charge juices your headphones for over sixty hours. If that sounds like a long time then you are right it is a long time. In fact, they are the industry leader in this innovation. You can even pop in the additional battery and stretch the battery life by an extra thirty five hours. They are not pulling any punches in this respect. Where they do fall down is in the range. They list it at twenty four feet. They need to do better in this department.
Another area of concern is the unit does not work with every device. In fact, it will not work with most Plasma TVs. This is a definite minus. It also does not work with treadmills. So be wary if you need the headset to work with these devices. The sound is above average and they pride themselves o the deep sound and true bass quality. It has less distortion and the headphones fit well with a lightweight design.
