Should I record at home or in the studio?
I tried to make a full length solo album with a professional quality audio-close. Acoustic sound with beats electronics. From my previous projects, I must say that I have the ability to DSP and create "space," but I always seem to mix suffer from poor sound quality, even though I thought they sounded good on the monitor. I'm not sure what the weak link in the chain .. sound source? Mixed? Mastering process? Ideally I want to record everything at home and may have mixed and / or controlled by a professional. But I'm not sure if that will take me to the fidelity music where necessary. Here are examples of previous projects: http://www.myspace.com/ihavebluehands I noted in the tool rack Digidesign 002 Pro with me and then control them with Reason's Record. I feel like this is the best I can get from this setup, although I always here about people recording an album of professional quality at home. What will You do in my position?
Hmmm. Voice recordings are good enough for me: My constructive. Another comment needs to be done de-Essing. Much more. What type of mic You use for vocals? Sounds like you both EQing some low mid freqs / exit or the mic does not get them. Auto Tune. Yes I know, not like other people use it but like it was meant to be used. Just fix things a little pitchy here and there. Needs more bass. What you do is not my type of things, but certainly less at the low end it may be more. layer in the digital will help also. For mastering, you may give Ozone tried in ProTools. The sonic maximizer great in that it will bring a lot of volume up, and fill in the blank on the EQ. Make attendance more. I'm using ProTools and a band-box m audio (there are players in the bottome of the page). Mastered by me using Ozone. This is at least twice as hard as you record. We do not; layer t what we can not do live, so it is very crude compared to the most popular "metal". Saying that, still sounds more "full" that your tape with a layer of vocals and harmonies (hope that makes sense). I think http://www.morrigansdeception.com/ You are quite good at what you do for yourself mixing and mastering. You have to spend a few bucks to get someone else to make it sound better. Stick with own recordings, and give a shot Ozone. I think you master the weak link, and maybe your studio monitors. Hard to find a monitor that nuetral enough to sound good at all. Also, you may need to try out different mixes and masters for the wave quality CD and MP3. MP3 just suck life from everything we do.
