The best method to transport a guitar?
I want to take my electric guitar back with me to college but to get there I took a plane. I have road runner cases, however hard I'm not sure if it would be wise to check luggage or take it as done in this regard will be stored under the plane. I can not say whether or not it is approved ATA ... I do not think it, but I'm not sure. Is there a high risk of transport in non-ata guitar case approved?
I can assure you that your Road Runner Ata Case is not approved. To get the ATA 300 rating (the most common), the case had been arrested a number of impacts and drops without a hinge bolt or fail, or whatever punched through. The "300" means that the case is expected to last trip in the trunk of 300 aircraft. They're expensive (about $ 300 and up) and weight (30 pounds empty and up). If you travel a lot, they are worth the investment. If you can take the guitar as carry-on, then do it. It will be able to store in overhead luggage racks (and people would throw things on it, so long as you can to save it). If you have even thought to check the guitar in cases of non-ATA, then you might as well put it in your yard and walk on it two times ... It will get at the other end. And unless you sign additional paperwork and pay additional fees for insurance, the airline will provide only about 60 cents per pound for the damage! If there is someone at your destination that can accept it, you better delivery there. Take the case to store the UPS (or FedEx Kinkos), have them pack, take the insurance, and send it to front .. Good luck, Greetings from Austin, Tx Ken
