Installing XP over Windows Vista?
I am working with a new Gateway computer. It comes with Windows vista on it. I do not like this OS and would like to install a full retail version of XP Pro. When I boot from the CD it starts installing then stops. I get a message saying the computer has been shut down. What I want to do is get rid of vista and installing XP on this computer. Gateway told me that my computer has a "Hard Drive is a solid 'and that is part of the reason I am having problems. But they can not really help me out because the computer came with vista. Any suggestions?
It wont be easy to do, it is you're trying to do down the class, which is something Microsoft does not like. What you will end up needing to do it format the hard drive with vista on it and then install the XP operating system. But you have to make sure that the xp cd you use is not installed on another computer otherwise you will run across a problem.
