Headphone Amplifier output mono not stereo?
I just bought a 4 channel Stereo Headphone amplifier. I have a standard guitar cable 1 / 4 inch exit from the headphone output on my 1402 Pro board Mackie VIZ mixture. This cable will be input from a headphone amplifier. When I then plug the headphones into the headphone output of the amplifier, I only get sound in one ear. If I unplug the cable 1 / 4 inch about 1 / 2 inches from the input to the headphone amplifier, I get stereo sound, but I should be very smooth about it. Why does this happen?? Why I dont get the stereo sound when I plugged in ALL THE WAY? I had the same problem with my mixing board. I am using a cable wrong?? Is this brand new headphone amplifier has been damaged? Please help me? I mean, it works, but like I said, I have to pull the cable out of the input bit, and be perfect about it, for me to get stereo sound in headphones.
Sounds like you have the wrong cable, or at least the wrong end on the cable. A stereo phone plug 1 / 4 inch will have three different connectors on it. Metal tip will be one of the areas with very narrow plastic ring between it and the metal ring which may be 3 / 16 of an inch followed by a narrow plastic ring, then the rest of the shaft connector as the third conductor. Large shaft is ground or common connector, usually the right channel the right and the tip is usually left channel. If the metal ring on your phone plug is a plug mono, not stereo. This will cause you only hear one channel when plugged into the stereo jack. Another possibility is that the jack you are plugging into is not a 1 / 4 inch standard stereo jack. Perhaps the short version or the mono version. This is more difficult to identify and you will need to open the amplifier to check it out. If you buy the amp from a local store, they should be happy to provide some assistance in this matter. Take your cable with you.
