How do you replace soldered wired speakers?
I have a Behringer GMX212. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-VTone-GMX212-Stereo-Combo?sku=480731
and It's speakers are damaged and need replacing.
I am planning to buy Eminence Legend 1258 75W Guitar Speaker. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Eminence-Legend-125-Guitar-Speaker?sku=667702
The speakers are soldered to the wire that goes into the amp.
In order to replace the old speakers with the new Eminence ones what should I do?
Should I cut the wire and use a soldering iron to install the new ones myself?
Don't cut any wires.
Buy a 25W soldering iron kit, and practice soldering copper wires together, then it will be a 10 minute job to de-solder the old speakers, swap them for new, and re-solder the connections. If the wire is passed thru a hole in the connector, you may need a "solder sipper" to remove the old solder, before you can get the wire off. Take care to keep the connections the same way round as original, or you will lose a lot of volume (both speakers need to "push" at the same time). Keep the soldering iron handy for the next time you blow a set of speakers! Or if you have a friend or neighbour with soldering experience?
It should be a breeze.
